APRIL 8 -- San Jose Sharks general manager Doug Wilson is the latest guest on NHL Executive Suite with Deb Placey.
Wilson, the third-longest tenured active NHL general manager with one franchise, shares his thoughts on spending quality time with his counterparts during the recent General Managers' meetings in Florida. He believes that GMs have a dual responsibility to serve as stewards to their clubs and also make decisions in the best interests of the game.
A former NHL defenseman, Wilson recalls being traded to the expansion Sharks, skating in the infamous Cow Palace and how he grew into his current role with the organization. He admires original Sharks owners, brothers George and Gordon Gund, for their hockey vision, investing in a unique market, and faithfulness to the dedicated and passionate Silicon Valley fan base. Wilson describes San Jose as a "vibrant, fun, exciting and tech-savvy place to live where young minds have no limits."
Tune in to hear Wilson's thoughts on current co-owner Hasso Plattner, head coach Peter DeBoer, captain Joe Pavelski and defenseman Brent Burns. Find out which NHL legend was Wilson's first roommate, who he admires, how signing a 'contract-for-the-day' got started as well as what he thinks makes hockey players so special.
