RALEIGH, N.C. - Stephen Weiss scored at 3:13 of overtime and the Detroit Red Wings rallied to beat the Carolina Hurricanes 3-2 on Friday night.
Henrik Zetterberg scored with 16.4 seconds left in the third to tie it, Justin Abdelkader scored and Jimmy Howard stopped 23 shots to help the Red Wings win their first road game since moving to the Eastern Conference.
Radek Dvorak and Nathan Gerbe scored in their debuts with Carolina, which led 2-0 in the third period but lost its opener for the fourth time in five seasons.
Justin Faulk added two assists and Cam Ward made 35 saves for the Hurricanes.
Zetterberg sent it into overtime when he pushed a loose puck past Ward after a scramble in front of the net. Ward lost his stick while stopping a shot from Daniel Alfredsson a moment earlier.
Weiss then ended it when he stuffed a loose puck past Ward.
ISLANDERS 4, DEVILS 3, SO
NEWARK, N.J. (AP) ? Matt Moulson scored the only goal of the shootout in the sixth round and New York opened the season with a victory over New Jersey.
Evgeni Nabokov made 26 saves and stopped all six Devils shots in the shootout as the Islanders won a season opener for the first time since 2007.
Michael Grabner scored two goals and set up another by Frans Nielsen for the Islanders.
Recently signed free agent Damien Brunner scored twice for the Devils, while fellow newcomer Michael Ryder had the other.
Martin Brodeur, whose father, Denis, died last week, had 23 saves in his first game of the season. Cory Schneider was in goal in the Devils' 3-0 loss in Pittsburgh on Thursday.
Brodeur stopped the Islanders first five shootout attempts before Moulson put a shot just under the crossbar.

BUFFALO, N.Y. (AP) ??? Erik Karlsson scored with 1:35 remaining in the third period and Craig Anderson stopped 35 shots in leading Ottawa to a season-opening win over Buffalo.
Former Sabres forward Clarke MacArthur set up the goal to spoil the Sabres' home opener.
Driving up the left wing, MacArthur slipped a pass through the middle to set up Karlsson alone in the right circle. Karlsson got just enough of the puck to direct it toward the net and under goalie Ryan Miller's legs.
Miller had a solid outing despite the loss in stopping 45 shots.
Karlsson's goal came a half-minute after Anderson made a huge glove save at the other end, stopping rookie Zemgus Girgensons' shot from the high slot.
