WASHINGTON (AP) - Alex Ovechkin scored his ninth goal in seven games, and the Washington Capitals pulled back into the final Eastern Conference playoff spot with a 3-0 victory over the Minnesota Wild on Sunday.
Jason Chimera and Mathieu Perrault also scored, and Braden Holtby made 28 saves in his fourth start of the season as the Capitals broke a two-game skid to move back into a tie on points with the Buffalo Sabres, with Washington holding the tiebreaker. The Capitals and Sabres, both with just six games remaining in the regular season, meet in Washington on Tuesday night.
Matt Hackett made 20 saves for the Wild.

SUNRISE, Fla. (AP) - Frans Nielsen scored the only goal to lift New York past Florida.
Kyle Okposo and Matt Moulson scored in regulation, and Evgeni Nabokov stopped 33 shots.
Tomas Fleischmann, and Stephen Weiss scored for Florida, and Jose Theodore made 35 saves.
Florida is three points ahead of Washington for the Southeast Division beat.
OILERS 6, BLUE JACKETS 3
COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) - Ryan Jones had a goal and two assists, Chris VandeVelde scored his first NHL goal and Edmonton beat Columbus in a matchup of the NHL's worst teams.
Ladislav Smid, Ben Eager, Sam Gagner and Eric Belanger also scored, and Ryan Nugent Hopkins, Jordan Eberle and Ryan Whitney each had two assists for the Oilers.
Rick Nash scored on a penalty shot and Mark Letestu and Derick Brassard added for Columbus. The loss assured the Blue Jackets of having the worst record in the NHL this season.
