NEWARK, N.J. - Marian Gaborik snapped a third-period tie with the first of his two goals and then sealed New York's win with an empty-netter as the Rangers beat the New Jersey Devils 4-1 on Tuesday night.

Gaborik, who reached 600 NHL points with his first goal, also helped set up Artem Anisimov's second-period tally that tied the game 1-1. New York (20-9-4) won its second straight and broke the Devils' four-game winning streak in the first of six meetings between Atlantic Division rivals.

Anisimov also had an assist, Carl Hagelin added a short-handed goal, and Derek Stepan chipped in three assists for the Rangers. Henrik Lundqvist defeated the Devils for the 23rd time in 37 games, making 30 saves for his 13th win of the season.

Travis Zajac's first goal of the season gave the Devils a 1-0 lead in the first period.

CAPITALS 4, PREDATORS 1

WASHINGTON (AP) ? Alex Ovechkin and Nicklas Backstrom scored first-period goals, Alexander Semin added a third-period goal, and Michal Neuvirth stopped 20 shots in Washington's win over Nashville.

Nashville lost for the first time in six games. This was the Predators' first game in 11 decided by more than one goal, two shy of an NHL record, according to STATS LLC.

Washington improved to 5-5 under new coach Dale Hunter. The Capitals are 6-1 in their last seven games against the Predators.

The Predators' Sergei Kostitsyn broke Neuvirth's shutout bid 4:40 into the third period with his fifth goal.

Troy Brouwer pushed the lead to 4-1 at 13:46.

SENATORS 4, SABRES 1

OTTAWA (AP) ??? Erik Condra combined with newly acquired Ottawa centre Kyle Turris on the first of Condra's two goals and lifted the Senators over Buffalo.

Erik Karlsson scored the Senators' third goal on a power play at 17:49. Condra netted his second of the game into an empty net at 18:14.

Zack Smith scored his ninth goal of the season in the first, and Craig Anderson made 22 saves for the Senators, who have won three of four.

Jordan Leopold drew Buffalo even at 1-1 with a power-play goal 13:12 into the second. Ryan Miller stopped 35 shots after allowing five goals in 30 minutes in Saturday's 8-3 loss at Pittsburgh.

PENGUINS 3, BLACKHAWKS 2

PITTSBURGH (AP) ??? Evgeni Malkin had three assists to move into a tie for the NHL scoring lead and the Penguins snapped Chicago's five-game winning streak.

Malkin assisted on goals by Chris Kunitz, James Neal and Tyler Kennedy, giving him points in all six games since Penguins captain Sidney Crosby left the lineup again because of concussion symptoms.

Malkin has six goals and nine assists in that stretch in which the Penguins lost three of the first four before Malkin had a hat trick in an 8-3 victory over Buffalo on Saturday.

Jonathan Toews and Viktor Stalberg had third-period goals for Chicago (21-9-4), which entered with the most points in the NHL. The Blackhawks had won five straight on the road.

COYOTES 2, PANTHERS 1

SUNRISE, Fla. (AP) ??? Radim Vrbata and Ray Whitney scored to lift Phoenix over Florida and give the Coyotes just their second win in six games.

Mike Smith stopped 19 shots before leaving with 16:31 left in the third period because of a non-contact injury. Jason LaBarbera relieved Smith and made eight saves, including one on Stephen Weiss' penalty shot.

Brian Campbell scored for the Panthers, and Jose Theodore made 20 saves. It was the first loss in regulation for the Panthers in nine home games. Florida's last 13 home games have been decided by one goal.

Florida was awarded a penalty shot with 24.5 seconds left in the game because several Coyotes players displaced the net. Weiss' shot was blocked by LaBarbera and stopped at the goal-line.
