DETROIT (AP) - Johan Franzen scored two power-play goals and added an assist, and Valtteri Filppula had a goal and three assists to help the Detroit Red Wings remain unbeaten with a 5-2 victory over the Columbus Blue Jackets on Friday night.
Detroit (5-0-0) and the Washington Capitals (6-0-0) - who play the Red Wings in Washington on Saturday night - are the NHL's only two unbeaten teams. Columbus (0-6-1) is the league's only winless squad.
Nicklas Lidstrom had a goal and an assist for Detroit, Pavel Datsyuk also scored, Tomas Holmstrom added two assists, and Jimmy Howard made 32 saves. Derick Brassard and Aaron Johnson scored for the Blue Jackets and Steve Mason stopped 28 shots.
NEWARK, N.J. (AP) - Michal Handzus and Ryane Clowe scored shootout goals and the San Jose Sharks celebrated captain Joe Thornton's 1,000th NHL game with a victory over New Jersey.
Thornton had a goal and set up Joe Pavelski's tying tally with 32.4 seconds left in regulation to help the Sharks snap a three-game losing streak and end the Devils' three-game winning streak. Clowe also scored in regulation for San Jose.
Zach Parise scored on a second-period penalty shot, and Patrik Elias and David Clarkson had the other goals for New Jersey, which got a 38-save performance from Johan Hedberg. Ilya Kovalchuk scored on New Jersey's first attempt in the shootout, but Parise and Elias failed on the next two.
ST. LOUIS (AP) - Matt D'Agostini scored at 3:58 of overtime to lift St. Louis past Carolina.
Jason Arnott and David Backes scored in the second period to help the Blues overcome a 2-0 deficit, and Brian Elliott made 27 saves.
In overtime after the Blues killed a penalty, Vladimir Sobotka won a faceoff, got the puck back from Pietrangelo and fed D'Agostini in the slot for a redirection past goalie Cam Ward.
Brandon Sutter had a goal and an assist for Carolina, Jay Harrison also scored, and Ward stopped 40 shots.
The Blues snapped a two-game losing streak and ended the Hurricanes' winning streak at three.
