UNIONDALE, N.Y. (AP) -Trent Hunter's goal in the eighth round of a shootout made Rick DiPietro a winner in his first game on Long Island in over a year.
DiPietro made 31 saves through overtime, then turned aside five shooters in the tiebreaker in the New York Islanders' 3-2 victory over Buffalo on Saturday night.
Limited to only three NHL games in over a year because of a knee injury, DiPietro got the Islanders to a shootout even though he couldn't protect a one-goal lead in the third. His last save against Patrick Kaleta gave New York its fifth win in six games.
Ryan Miller allowed goals to Rob Schremp and Matt Moulson in the shootout after a 36-save effort. Buffalo is 7-0-3 in its last 10.
John Tavares and Sean Bergenheim scored in regulation for New York, and Mike Grier and Drew Stafford countered for Buffalo.
COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) - Jonathan Toews scored twice in the third period and added an assist to help Chicago sweep the home-and-home series.
Andrew Ladd, Marian Hossa and Troy Brouwer each had a goal and an assist, and Ben Eager also scored for Chicago, which blew a 3-1 lead and trailed 4-3 heading into the third period. Cristobal Huet made 21 saves for Chicago.
Columbus' Rick Nash scored twice to snap an 11-game goal drought, Kristian Huselius had a goal and two assists, and Kris Russell and Raffi Torres also scored.
SAN JOSE, Calif. (AP) - Devin Setoguchi scored twice in a 1:38 span, and Patrick Marleau had his NHL-leading 32nd goal for San Jose.
Joe Thornton added his 13th for the Sharks, who have won 12 of 15 games to remain tied with Chicago for the NHL overall lead.
Thomas Greiss made 27 saves to win in his first start of the month, allowing Denis Grebeshkov's first-period goal and Patrick O'Sullivan's short-hander in the third. The Oilers have lost seven straight and 14 of 15 overall.
DENVER (AP) - Craig Anderson made 37 saves, and Chris Stewart, T.J. Galiardi and Wojtek Wolski scored for Colorado.

Devils forward Patrik Elias left the game on a stretcher after being checked by Colorado defenseman Ryan Wilson 38 seconds into the second period. Wilson hit Elias with a high check at the Avalanche blue line with 38 seconds gone in the second period.
Elias stayed on the ice for about 5 minutes before he was secured onto the stretcher. He had X-rays at Pepsi Center and was taken to a hospital for a CT scan, but both results were negative.
MONTREAL (AP) - Daniel Alfredsson had a goal and two assists in his return to Ottawa's lineup, and Zack Smith scored his first NHL goal.
Alfredsson, who missed 11 games because of a separated left shoulder, and Chris Phillips scored 1:22 apart to give Ottawa its second lead 5:07 into the second.
Mike Brodeur stopped 30 shots in his third career start, and Mike Fisher had an empty-net goal. Benoit Pouliot and Tomas Plekanec scored for Montreal.
DALLAS (AP) - Steve Ott scored a controversial goal in the sixth round of the shootout, and Dallas beat Detroit to end a three-game skid.
Dallas goalie Alex Auld and Detroit's Jimmy Howard were perfect in the first five rounds before Ott backhanded a shot through Howard's pads. Howard pulled the puck off the goal line, but video review officials ruled the shot crossed the line.
Brad Richards and Loui Eriksson scored in regulation for the Stars, and Todd Bertuzzi and Brian Rafalski countered for the Red Wings.
LOS ANGELES (AP) - Dustin Brown and Anze Kopitar scored third-period goals and had both Los Angeles goals in the shootout.
Jarret Stoll scored in the first period, and Jonathan Quick stopped 22 shots, including Daniel Paille's short-handed breakaway try in the final minute of the second period. Blake Wheeler and Michael Ryder scored 11 seconds apart during the second period, and Miroslav Satan added a goal for Boston.
SUNRISE, Fla. (AP) - Cory Stillman and Rostislav Olesz each scored two goals, and Tomas Vokoun made 47 saves for Florida.
Bryan Allen also scored to help Florida sweep the home-and-home series. On Thursday night in Tampa, the Panthers beat the Lightning 3-2. Alex Tanguay and Andrej Meszaros scored for Tampa Bay.
