NEW YORK (AP) -Vinny Prospal scored two goals - including his 200th in the NHL - during first-period power plays and the New York Rangers stretched their winning streak to six games with a 4-2 victory over the Los Angeles Kings on Wednesday night.

Prospal added an assist on Marian Gaborik's sixth of the season that made it 4-2 at 4:22 of the third. Gaborik has 10 points this season - at least one in all seven games.

The Rangers swept a three-game homestand in four days and improved to 6-0 since a season-opening loss at Pittsburgh. Former Kings forward Brian Boyle scored a second-period goal, and Henrik Lundqvist stopped 34 shots for his fifth win in six games.

Ryan Smyth and Michal Handzus scored for Los Angeles, which had won four in a row after losing on opening night to Phoenix. Erik Ersberg, making his first start of the season in relief of No. 1 goalie Jon Quick, stopped 17 shots.

RALEIGH, N.C. (AP) - Chris Kunitz beat Cam Ward on the 12th shot of a shootout to help Pittsburgh improve to 5-0 on the road for the first time in franchise history.

Evgeni Malkin and Michael Rupp scored in regulation for the Stanley Cup champion Penguins. Ray Whitney scored twice for Carolina, helping the Hurricanes rally from a 2-0 deficit to force overtime in the first meeting between the teams since Pittsburgh swept Carolina in the Eastern Conference finals.

CHICAGO (AP) - Patrick Sharp, Kris Versteeg, Jack Skille and Cam Barker scored against former teammate Nikolai Khabibulin to help Chicago beat Edmonton.

Mostly a high-priced disappointment during his four years in Chicago but a standout last season in the Blackhawks' run to the Western Conference finals, Khabibulin made 34. He stopped Sharp on a penalty shot in the second period.

Andrew Cogliano, Dustin Penner and Denis Grebeshkov scored for Edmonton.

DALLAS (AP) - Brenden Morrow scored twice in the opening 9 minutes of Dallas' four-goal first period, and Marty Turco stopped 29 shots for his 37th career shutout in the Stars' 6-0 victory over the Nashville Predators on Wednesday night.

Brad Richards added a goal and two assists, and Loui Eriksson had a goal and an assist during the first-period outburst to help the Stars win at home for the first time this season. Eriksson completed a two-goal night on a second-period power play, and Toby Petersen added a third-period goal.
