DETROIT (AP) -Jordan Leopold scored on a penalty shot and added an assist and Andrew Raycroft made 34 saves and the Colorado Avalanche held on for a 3-2 win over the Detroit Red Wings on Monday night.
Wojtek Wolski and Paul Stastny also scored for Colorado.
Tomas Holmstrom and Marian Hossa scored for Detroit. Chris Osgood stopped 24 shots.
Hossa brought the Red Wings to within a goal 7:07 into the third period when he scored from the left circle off a face off won by Henrik Zetterberg. It was Hossa's 16th goal.
Leopold scored on a penalty shot 1:51 into the third for his fifth goal.
He put a backhand over Osgood's shoulder after the Red Wings' Brett Lebda was called for covering the puck in the crease.
LOS ANGELES (AP) - Ryane Clowe scored a power-play goal in the first period and got the deciding goal in the shootout and San Jose topped Los Angeles.
Patrick Marleau tied the score with a short-handed goal in the second period.
The Sharks, who have the NHL's best record, improved to 25-3-2 with their 12th victory in 13 games and 19th in the past 22. The closest team in the Western Conference - the defending Stanley Cup champion Detroit Red Wings - fell eight points back after their 3-2 loss to Colorado.
