Dallas Stars

Roope Hintz will miss the next two games with an upper-body injury
The forward did not travel with the Stars on a two-game trip to New York, where they played the Islanders on Tuesday and visit the Rangers on Thursday.
"I'm not concerned about it being long-term, but [he's] not with us," Dallas coach Peter DeBoer said.
Hintz sustained the injury late in the first period of a 5-1 win against the Florida Panthers on Sunday at American Airlines Center. He did not return to the game. The 26-year-old is second on the Stars with 44 points (19 goals, 25 assists) this season.
To fill Hintz's spot, Tyler Seguin began the game against the Islanders as the first-line center.
"Everybody's dealing with injuries. It's next man up and you know someone's misfortune [is] someone's other opportunity," said DeBoer, who added Seguin's experience made it easier for him to slot the 30-year-old onto the top line.
"He's not overwhelmed by the situation," DeBoer said. "You're not sticking a young guy up there that hasn't been there before."

Detroit Red Wings

Tyler Bertuzzi was activated off injured reserve and returned for the Red Wings against the Winnipeg Jets at Little Caesars Arena on Tuesday after missing 16 games with an upper-body injury.
The forward had surgery for the injury sustained in a 5-4 shootout loss to the Buffalo Sabres on Nov. 30 He left late in the third period after being hit on the left hand with a shot.
Bertuzzi missed 13 games earlier this season after breaking his right hand in a game during a 5-2 win at the New Jersey Devils on Oct. 15. He has four points (one goal, three assists) in nine games and projects to skate on a line with Dylan Larkin and Lucas Raymond on Tuesday.
"It has to be frustrating for him, just in the way he went down," Detroit coach Derek Lalonde said Monday. "Literally four periods in he goes down, he comes back, gets a few games under his belt, is trying to get some rhythm going, he goes down again. But that's behind him. He's looked great in the last three, four, five practices, and now hopefully it translates into tomorrow's game."
Filip Zadina skated in a no-contact jersey Monday. Lalonde said the forward is week to week with a lower-body injury but is targeting a three-game road trip beginning Jan. 16 for a potential return. Zadina was placed on injured reserve after a 3-0 win against the New York Islanders on Nov. 5, when he was hit on the right leg by a shot with 5:19 left in the third period.
The Red Wings assigned forward
Elmer Soderblom
to Grand Rapids of the American Hockey League on Sunday.

Minnesota Wild

Mats Zuccarello returned when the Wild visited the forward's former team, the Rangers, at Madison Square Garden on Tuesday.
Zuccarello missed two games with an upper-body injury. They were the first two he missed this season.
He is second for Minnesota with 40 points (16 goals, 24 assists) in 37 games this season.
"You want to play as soon as you can, obviously, and I felt OK out there," Zuccarello said. "If we were in Winnipeg or Vegas, I still would try to play. But obviously it's special to come back and play when you've been here for so many years."
Zuccarello played 509 games with New York from 2010-19.
The Wild also had goalie Marc-Andre Fleury and forward Jordan Greenway back after each missed one game, a 3-0 loss to the St. Louis Blues on Sunday.
Fleury missed the game because he took a leave of absence from the Wild to attend to a personal matter. He returned Monday and flew with them to New York.

Chicago Blackhawks

Patrick Kane's status is unknown for the Blackhawks when they play the Colorado Avalanche on Thursday (8:30 p.m. ET; NBCSCH, ALT, ESPN+, SN NOW).
The forward, who has a lower-body injury, skated briefly then left the ice before practice Tuesday.
"It'll depend on tomorrow," Chicago coach Luke Richardson said of Kane. "If he's out there for a full practice tomorrow, I would expect him to play. But today, we just wanted to make sure we're not pushing it this week. We'll take that time."
Kane did not play in a 2-0 win against the Arizona Coyotes on Friday or a 4-3 overtime win against the Calgary Flames on Sunday. He said he sustained the injury after taking a hit from San Jose Sharks forward Evgeny Svechnikov in a 5-2 loss on Sunday.
It was the first time Kane missed a game due to injury since he sustained a broken clavicle against the Florida Panthers on Feb. 24, 2015, and missed the rest of that regular season.
Kane has 27 points (seven goals, 20 assists) in 37 games this season, second on the Blackhawks behind forward Max Domi, who has 28 points (12 goals, 16 assists) in 39 games. -- Tracey Myers

Toronto Maple Leafs

TJ Brodie was placed on injured reserve Tuesday with a rib injury.
"He has been playing through something and got a few extra tests done yesterday and it's something that is going to require a little time to settle so I think rather than him continuing to play through that, just get him on the IR and give him some time to recover," Maple Leafs coach Sheldon Keefe said.
The defenseman last played Saturday in a 4-1 win against the Red Wings, his 800th NHL game. He had one assist in 18:37.
Keefe did not put a definitive timeline on Brodie's return but does not expect him to be out a significant amount of time.
"Nothing too long," Keefe said, adding that it is not related to the oblique injury that kept him out for 12 games from Nov. 12 until his return in a 5-0 win against the Los Angeles Kings on Dec. 8.
Morgan Rielly was paired with Justin Holl at practice Monday. Rasmus Sandin skated with Timothy Liljegren and Mark Giordano was paired with Conor Timmins, who replaced Brodie on Sunday, playing 18:05 and having a goal and an assist in a 6-2 win against the Philadelphia Flyers.

New York Islanders

Simon Holmstrom was activated off injured reserve and returned when the Islanders hosted the Stars on Tuesday.
The forward missed six games with a lower-body injury after a knee-on-knee collision with Florida Panthers center Sam Bennett late in the second period of a 5-1 win Dec. 23.
Holmstrom practiced with New York on Monday, skating on the top line with Anders Lee and Mathew Barzal, and participated in the optional skate Tuesday. He has two points (one goal, one assist) in 14 games this season.
Barzal returned after missing a 4-1 loss at the Calgary Flames with an undisclosed injury Friday. The center was injured early in the third period of a 4-2 loss at the Edmonton Oilers on Thursday. -- Denis P. Gorman

Colorado Avalanche

Denis Malgin is out week to week with an upper-body injury.
The forward left Colorado's 4-2 loss at the Vancouver Canucks on Jan. 5 with an upper body injury and did not play in a 3-2 overtime win against the Edmonton Oilers on Jan. 7.
Malgin, who was acquired in a trade with the Maple Leafs on Dec. 19, has one assist in seven games with the Avalanche. He has five points (two goals, three assists) in 30 games this season.
Coach Jared Bednar said that Valeri Nichushkin, who was supposed to be with the team on the recent two-game road trip, was held back due to lingering issues with his ankle. The forward missed his seventh straight game when the Avalanche hosted the Panthers on Tuesday.
"We're just letting that ankle heal," Bednar said.
Defenseman Josh Manson (lower body) took to the ice prior to the morning skate in a red non-contact jersey, and defenseman Bowen Byram (lower body) has started skating on his own. Neither has a timeline to return. -- Ryan Boulding

Columbus Blue Jackets

Daniil Tarasov was placed on injured reserve by the Blue Jackets on Tuesday with an upper-body injury retroactive to Dec. 30.
The goalie has missed the past five games and is day to day.
Tarasov is 2-8-1 with a 3.40 goals-against average and .907 save percentage in 12 games this season.
Jet Greaves was recalled from Cleveland of the American Hockey League with Joonas Korpisalo unavailable for Tuesday's game at the Tampa Bay Lightning due to the birth of his child.

St. Louis Blues

Robert Bortuzzo was placed on injured reserve because of a lower-body injury.
The defenseman left the Blues' 5-4 loss to the Montreal Canadiens on Saturday because of a lower-body injury sustained in the first period, and he did not play in a 3-0 win at the Minnesota Wild on Sunday. Blues coach Craig Berube said Sunday that Bortuzzo was day to day.
Bortuzzo has one goal in 30 games this season.
Defenseman Dmitri Samorukov was recalled from Springfield of the American Hockey League. The 23-year-old has one game of NHL experience, playing with the Oilers against the Blues on Dec. 29, 2021. He has eight points (two goals, six assists) in 34 AHL games this season.
