NYI@PIT, Gm5: Bailey scores 51 seconds into 2nd OT

PITTSBURGH -- Josh Bailey scored 51 seconds into the second overtime, and Ilya Sorokin made 48 saves for the New York Islanders in a 3-2 win against the Pittsburgh Penguins in Game 5 of the Stanley Cup First Round at PPG Paints Arena on Monday.

Bailey intercepted a pass from Penguins goalie Tristan Jarry and chipped a shot over his glove to give the Islanders the lead in the best-of-7 series.
"We're all just focused on the task at hand," Bailey said. "It doesn't matter who gets the goals. I think we're all excited. A win is a win."
Evgeni Malkin scored for the first time since March 15, and Sidney Crosby got his first point since Game 1 with an assist for the Penguins, the No. 1 seed in the MassMutual East Division. Jarry made 25 saves.
"I was really proud of the team," Pittsburgh coach Mike Sullivan said. "I thought we played a really solid hockey game. All four lines were going. All six defensemen. Tristan made a couple of big saves for us throughout the course of the game. I was really proud of the group. I thought we played with some swagger."
Jordan Eberle scored the tying goal in the third period for the Islanders, the No. 4 seed.

Game 6 is at New York on Wednesday. Teams that win Game 5 after a 2-2 tie are 213-58 (78.5 percent) winning a best-of-7 Stanley Cup Playoff series.
"The result was not what we wanted tonight," Penguins defenseman Kris Letang said. "But I think we made a statement. That's the way we need to play going into their arena. I'm pretty confident that if we play the same way, we'll get the result."
Frederick Gaudreau nearly won it for Pittsburgh by deflecting a shot from Marcus Pettersson at 8:39 of the first overtime. Seemingly without seeing the tip, Sorokin made a standing save with his right pad.
"Outstanding," New York coach Barry Trotz said about Sorokin. "I can use all the [words] that you want to write. They all will apply. He was outstanding, gave us a chance."
Eberle scored on a wrist shot with Jarry scrambling, tying it 2-2 at 8:50 of the third. It was the first shot on goal of the period for the Islanders, who were being outshot 37-14 at the time.
Malkin gave Pittsburgh a 1-0 lead with a snap shot on a power play at 8:20 of the first period. He had not scored in six games between the regular season and playoffs since missing 23 games with a lower-body injury.

The goal gave Malkin 172 career playoff points (64 goals, 108 assists), tied with Mario Lemieux for second in Penguins history and 19 behind Crosby.
Anthony Beauvillier tied it 1-1 at 19:05 of the first. After skating around Jake Guentzel, Beauvillier drove to the net for a wrist shot over Jarry's blocker.
"You want to get on the board, obviously," Beauvillier said. "A big goal for us to tie it up at 1-1 before the end of the period. It was big for us."
Bryan Rust put the Penguins ahead 2-1 with a one-timer set up by Crosby at 7:37 of the second period. The assist moved Crosby past Brett Hull into sole possession of seventh all-time in playoff points with 191 (69 goals, 122 assists).
"I think we're going to work together," Rust said. "I think we're going to lift our heads up and try to win. Obviously, this is a race to four. Our backs are against the wall now, and we just have to work hard to get the next two."
