Each team has been off since Sunday, when the Rangers lost 2-1 at the Vegas Golden Knights and the Islanders won 5-4 in a shootout at home against the New Jersey Devils, stopping a five-game losing streak.
The Rangers are in fourth place in the Metropolitan Division (49 points) and hold the first wild card into the Stanley Cup Playoffs from the Eastern Conference. They have a game in hand on the Islanders, who are last in the Metropolitan (46 points).
The Islanders defeated the Rangers 4-3 in a shootout at the Garden on Oct. 19.

Players to watch

Islanders forward Michael Dal Colle, the No. 5 pick in the 2014 NHL Draft, will make his NHL debut after being recalled on an emergency basis from Bridgeport of the American Hockey League on Thursday. He has 18 points (five goals, 13 assists) in 34 AHL games.
Rangers forward Pavel Buchnevich will play after being a healthy scratch against the Golden Knights. His 26 points (11 goals, 15 assists) are third on the Rangers, but he has no goals in his past 10 games.

Rangers coach Alain Vigneault said Hayes is less than 50-50 to play against the Islanders even though he was a full participant in practice Friday. He was injured against Vegas. … Bailey and Ladd each will miss his second straight game.
