ISLANDERS (32-25-11) at HURRICANES (28-27-11)

7 p.m. ET; MSG+2, FS-CR, NHL.TV

Islanders team scope

The New York Islanders trail the Toronto Maple Leafs by one point for the second wild card into the Stanley Cup Playoffs from the Eastern Conference. Their 8-4 home loss to the Carolina Hurricanes on Monday was their first game at home after a nine-game road trip, and it marked the first time they have lost back-to-back games since Dec. 13-15. Goalie Jean-Francois Berube allowed four goals on 13 shots before being replaced by Thomas Greiss, who gave up four goals on 20 shots. "Disappointing certainly at this point in the season, especially with how crucial each game is for us," captain John Tavares said. "We get the chance to redeem ourselves right away."

Hurricanes team scope

The Hurricanes will look to defeat the Islanders for the fourth straight time this season. Defenseman Jaccob Slavin scored three goals for his first NHL hat trick, including a shorthanded goal that gave Carolina a 6-3 lead. Justin Faulk and Jeff Skinner each scored twice. "I thought we did a good job getting through the neutral zone with possession," coach Bill Peters said after the game. "We found a way to win, so whatever it's going to take to get a win (Tuesday). I don't think there's going to be 12 goals. But if there is, let's make sure we're on the right side of the ledger." The Hurricanes are 3-0-0 against the Islanders and have outscored them 20-12.
