Scheifele, Jets hand Devils third straight loss

WINNIPEG -- Mark Scheifele had two goals and an assist to help the Winnipeg Jets to a 5-2 win against the New Jersey Devils at Bell MTS Place on Sunday.

"We've been playing the right way," said Scheifele, who has 15 points (seven goals, eight assists) in his past nine games. "We've been in the right spots. Lines are starting to figure out each other. A little more consistent on our routes. That's what we want. We want to continue to build off this."

Jack Roslovic, Nikolaj Ehlers and Mathieu Perreault also scored for the Jets (10-5-1), and Connor Hellebuyck made 34 saves.
Forward Blake Wheeler had two assists to become the first Jets player to reach 500 points since the team relocated to from Atlanta in 2011. Wheeler has 501 points (168 goals, 333 assists) in 550 games with Winnipeg. He is tied for first in the NHL with 20 assists and is tied for third with 23 points.
"What stands out about him is how hard he works," Scheifele said. "Good things happen to guys who work hard. I'm definitely very lucky to play with him."

Devils forward Brett Seney scored his first NHL goal and Blake Coleman also scored. New Jersey (6-8-1) has lost three straight and finished 1-6-0 on its seven-game road trip. Cory Schneider made 23 saves.
Devils center Nico Hischier left the game in the second period because of an upper-body injury and did not return. Coach John Hynes did not have an update on Hischier's status after the game.
"It just seems like every time we do make a mistake or there's a breakdown, [the puck] just ends up in the back of our net," Devils forward Taylor Hall said. "Unfortunately, it's coming at a tough time and we can't seem to get out of it right now."
Roslovic gave the Jets a 1-0 lead at 3:02 of the first period before Scheifele scored 29 seconds later to make it 2-0 at 3:31.
"That's a huge boost," Wheeler said of Roslovic's goal. "That was a nice play. A nice pinch by [defenseman Dustin Byfuglien], a nice fill and a heck of a shot too."

Seney pulled the Devils to 2-1 at 7:15.
"It was definitely a milestone that every player wants to get," said Seney, a sixth-round pick (No. 157) at the 2015 NHL Draft. "Disappointed with the loss, but I thought we played hard and had a lot of chances."
Scheifele's second of the game at 2:58 of the second period made it 3-1. Coleman brought the Devils back to 3-2 on a wrist shot 47 seconds later at 3:45.
Ehlers scored for a third straight game and extended the lead to 4-2 on a delayed penalty at 7:54. Perreault made it 5-2 at 12:47.

Wheeler is the 12th player in NHL history to factor in on 10 straight. He has 19 points (two goals, 17 assists) in a 10-game point streak. ... Byfuglien has eight points (one goal, seven assists) during a six-game point streak.
