WASHINGTON-- Keith Kinkaid made 43 saves, plus two in the shootout, for the New Jersey Devils in a 2-1 win against the Washington Capitals at Verizon Center on Thursday.
"It's a lot of shots, but I think our guys did a good job of keeping them to the outside, letting me see them," Kinkaid said. "That's the biggest part. Sometimes the shot totals don't tell the story, but that was a fun game to play."
PA Parenteau scored in the second period, and Michael Cammalleri and Jacob Josefson scored in the shootout for the Devils (14-15-7), who had lost seven games in a row to the Capitals.

Daniel Winnik scored for the Capitals (20-9-5), who have lost four of their past five games. Braden Holtby made 26 saves.
"I expect a lot from this group, and everybody does also, so whenever we lose, it's certainly never enough and there's never any silver lining," Capitals forward Justin Williams said. "We expect to win every game, and one goal usually doesn't do it."
Parenteau scored at 1:05 of the second period to give the Devils a 1-0 lead. He took advantage of a Capitals turnover and scored his 10th goal of the season from the slot.
Winnik scored shorthanded at 3:50 of the third period to tie the game 1-1. The breakaway goal was his fifth of the season.

Goal of the game

Parenteau capitalized on Evgeny Kuznetsov's turnover, went past Dmitry Orlov in the slot, and put a wrist shot behind Holtby.
"That's part of the game," Parenteau said. "[Kuznetsov is] a playmaker. Sometimes things happen. I've been on the other side of that, and it's not fun, but we'll take it. I think we needed that goal the way things are going."

They said it

"I'd say top five. It was fun, especially against that team, a high-powered offense. It's fun to get the win. We almost beat Pittsburgh where I had 49 shots, but this is kind of redemption for that." -- Devils goalie Keith Kinkaid on where he would rank the game(He made 46 saves when New Jersey lost to the Pittsburgh Penguins 4-3 in a shootout on Nov. 26)
"It was huge. The way things have been going for us, when a goalie plays like that and you don't come up on top, it would've been tough to swallow. We did, great job in 3-on-3 and the shootout, and way to stick with it." -- Devils forward PA Parenteau
"I think everybody on the [penalty kill] is having a good read on when to go for offense this year. Jay and I, we talk about it all the time. If we can go, we're gonna go. The chemistry on the [penalty kill] started last year when I got here and it's kind of carried over into this season." -- Capitals forward Daniel Winnik
