Chytil's OT winner propels Rangers to 4-3 victory

NEW YORK -- The New Jersey Devils' 11-game road winning streak ended when Filip Chytil scored at 2:15 of overtime to give the New York Rangers a 4-3 victory at Madison Square Garden on Monday.

The Devils (21-5-2) were one win from tying the 2014-15 Minnesota Wild and 2005-06 Detroit Red Wings for the longest run in NHL history. They're 11-1-1 away from Prudential Center and hadn't lost on the road since a 5-2 defeat at the Philadelphia Flyers on Oct. 13.
Dawson Mercer had a goal and an assist, and Nico Hischier and Jack Hughes each scored for New Jersey, which has lost two in a row (0-1-1) for the first time since an 0-2-0 start. Vitek Vanecek made 19 saves.
The Devils host the Dallas Stars on Tuesday.
"It's a rivalry game," Hischier said. "It was intense and close until the end. No time for panic. We have to regroup, and tomorrow is a new game. That's what we have to focus on right now."
Vincent Trocheck (one goal, one assist) and Kaapo Kakko scored seven seconds apart in the second period, and K'Andre Miller had two assists for the Rangers (15-10-5), who trailed 2-0 just 4:46 into the game but rallied for their fourth straight win, their longest streak this season. Igor Shesterkin made 26 saves.
"It always feels good that we have these comebacks, and we show our true character," Chytil said. "We have to just keep going. Sometimes it's hard [to stay positive], but we had a three-game winning streak. It was like, 'We can get back into the game.'"

NJD@NYR: Chytil goes post and in to win it in OT

Jonas Siegenthaler's shot deflected off Hischier at 3:05 of the first period to give the Devils a 1-0 lead, and Mercer made it 2-0 at 4:46 after Hughes collected a loose puck after a turnover by New York defenseman Jacob Trouba.
Chris Kreider cut it to 2-1 when he completed a 2-on-1 with Trocheck at 18:25.
Hughes put the Devils ahead 3-1 at 11:05 of the second after
Alexis Lafreniere
couldn't control a deflection off the boards at center ice, which sprung Hughes loose for a breakaway goal.

Trocheck redirected Adam Fox's shot from the point on a power play for his 10th goal of the season to cut it to 3-2 at 13:58, and Kakko tied it 3-3 when he one-timed Artemi Panarin's feed at 14:05.
"It's huge," Fox said. "You could see the emotion from the guys on the ice, laughter and tripping over everyone in the pile. You don't see that all the time on just a goal, but when you're able to come back from 3-1 that quickly, the crowd gets really into it, and I think it's a big momentum swing. You get that jolt of energy."
Hughes was awarded a penalty shot at 12:50 of the second when he was taken down by Braden Schneider, but Shesterkin poked the puck off his stick.
"That's a key moment in the game," Devils defenseman Damon Severson said. "If we get a goal, we're up by a bunch. If they get a save there, they feel like they're still in the game. That's a 50-50 chance. Unfortunately, it didn't go our way, but we still had plenty of chances to win the game. We just couldn't get it done tonight."
