The Devils let a 2-0 lead against the Detroit Red Wings slip away before losing 3-2 in overtime. New Jersey played without defenseman Sami Vatanen, who was placed on injured reserve with a lower-body injury retroactive to Nov. 15, and center Nico Hischier, who missed his third straight game with an upper-body injury.
Carolina lost 4-1 to the Columbus Blue Jackets. The Hurricanes are 2-5-2 in their past nine games.
Goalie Curtis McElhinney is likely to start. He has made one start since Oct. 20, a 4-1 loss to the St. Louis Blues on Nov. 6.
