Zetterlund propels Devils to OT win with 2 goals

CALGARY -- Fabian Zetterlund scored his second goal at 2:38 of overtime, and the New Jersey Devils extended their winning streak to six games with a 4-3 victory against the Calgary Flames at Scotiabank Saddledome on Saturday.

Zetterlund won it when he one-timed a cross-ice pass from Dougie Hamilton on the power play.
"I know when the puck is coming there I won't miss," Zetterlund said.
Nathan Bastian and Miles Wood each had a goal and an assist for the Devils (9-3-0), who have won six straight for the first time since March 27-April 7, 2012. Vitek Vanecek made 27 saves.
"We're playing fast and it's been a fun year for us," Bastian said. "It's been preached through our room that we want to play connected. When we're connected, the [defensemen] knows where the forwards are, and the forwards know where the [defensemen] are, and Vitek knows where the rest of us are.
"We're trying to do everything as a team because it's such a hard league to win in. We've had a lot of individuals step up as well."

Nazem Kadri and Nikita Zadorov scored, and Jacob Markstrom made 31 saves for the Flames (5-4-1), who lost the final four of a season-long eight-game homestand.
"We can't be sorry about what's happening right now," Zadorov said. "Definitely losing four in a row is unacceptable for our group. We're going on the road. We haven't done it for a while, been home for a while, so it's going to be something new for us. Definitely a new energy, new excitement.
"I think we're going to be just fine. The guys in this room are professionals. We have a really good team. We believe in each other. We're going to turn things around."

NJD@CGY: Kadri give Flames the lead in front

Kadri put Calgary up 1-0 at 1:29 of the first period when he backhanded a loose puck at the top of the crease by Vanecek for his team-leading sixth goal of the season.
Bastian tied it 1-1 at 4:27 after shooting five-hole on Markstrom from the slot off a pass from below the goal line from Jack Hughes.
"It was a great play from Jack," said Bastian, who has five points (one goal, four assists) in a four-game point streak. "Anytime you are able to sneak on the ice and get a couple extra minutes with Jack…he made such a great play and I had the easy work."
Zetterlund made it 2-1 at 7:50 when he lifted a loose puck at the edge of the crease over Markstrom. Wood then got behind the Flames' defense and redirected a centering pass from Michael McLeod to make it 3-1 at 16:38.
"We started on time, scored the first goal," Calgary forward Blake Coleman said. "Just an ugly one, kind of the way you want to get it going. And then, common theme of just lapses in the [defensive] zone and not giving our goaltender a chance. It's just dragging on too long."

NJD@CGY: Bastian buries a beautiful feed from Hughes

Elias Lindholm cut the lead to 3-2 at 4:48 of the second. Noah Hanifin received a breakout pass after stepping out of the penalty box and was stopped on a 2-on-0, but Lindholm redirected Hanifin's immediate centering pass into an empty net.
Zadorov scored 3:12 into the third to tie it 3-3 when he deflected a centering pass from Coleman as he was driving to the net.
Markstrom kept the game tied when he stopped Jesper Bratt on a partial breakaway at 6:58, and made a blocker save on Hughes' breakaway at 7:08.
"You've got to find ways to win games," Coleman said. "There's never an excuse in this game. Guys got to dig and find a way. Unfortunately, you come up a goal short in OT. It's just the same old story right now."
NOTES: Bratt had his season-opening 11-game point streak end (five goals, 12 assists). ... Flames defenseman Michael Stone left after his first shift in the first period with an apparent lower-body injury. ... Calgary defenseman Chris Tanev missed his second straight game because of an upper-body injury. ...Wood has seven points (four goals, three assists) in a four-game point streak.
