New Jersey Devils defenseman Jon Merrill will be out at least four weeks because of a broken right index finger. Merrill was injured blocking a shot against the New York Rangers on Oct. 1.
Merrill, 24, had one goal and four assists in 47 games last season. The Devils also announced that left wing Luke Gazdic will be out four weeks after breaking his left foot blocking a shot against the Philadelphia Flyers on Sept. 26. Gazdic had one goal in 29 games with the Edmonton Oilers last season. He signed a one-year, two-way contract with the Devils on July 5.
