New coach Boudreau aims to boost Ducks' confidence @NHL

ANAHEIM, Calif. (AP) - Two days of unemployment were plenty for Bruce Boudreau. The fired Washington coach has already jumped into his next NHL rebuilding project with the Anaheim Ducks.

Boudreau ran his first practice with the Ducks on Thursday, a few hours after Anaheim abruptly replaced coach Randy Carlyle with a former teammate.

Boudreau says he planned to do a little television work after Washington dismissed him, but couldn't resist the chance to take over a roster with Anaheim's depth and talent.

The Ducks were shocked by Carlyle's firing, since they figured a trade was more likely. Anaheim is off to a perplexing 7-13-4 start, stuck in 14th place in the Western Conference with just three wins in the last 19 games.

Boudreau says he hopes to restore the Ducks' confidence.
