OTTAWA - Thomas Nesbitt scored 2:46 into overtime as the Ottawa 67's eked out a 3-2 win over the Sudbury Wolves in Ontario Hockey League action Sunday afternoon.
Corey Cowick had a pair of goals for the 67's (37-23-8) while Ryan Martindale picked up three assists and Julien Demers two. Chris Perugini made 37 saves for the win.
Eric O'Dell scored in the first period for the Wolves (26-35-7) and Steve Reese forced overtime with a goal at 18:01 of the third period. Andrew Loverock turned aside 29 shots.
The 67's enter the playoffs as the No. 2 seed in the Eastern conference and will play a best-of-seven series with the Niagara Ice Dogs.
The Wolves, meanwhile, are the eighth seed and open the playoffs against the top ranked team in the country, the Barrie Colts.
"We played a sloppy game but managed to eke out a win," said Ottawa's Chris Byrne, who will make his playoff debut behind the bench after spending the last couple of seasons as an assistant to the legendary Brian Kilrea.
"We are excited to start the playoffs and look forward to our first game."
