Quinnipiac heads NCAA Tournament field

Top-seeded Bobcats face RIT; defending champion Providence faces Minnesota-Duluth @NHL

The NCAA Division I Men's Hockey Championship bracket was unveiled Sunday, and Quinnipiac is the No. 1 overall seed.

Quinnipiac, which went 29-3-7 this season, will play No. 4 Rochester Institute of Technology (18-14-6) in the East Regional in Albany, N.Y., on Saturday and face the winner of No. 2 Massachusetts-Lowell (24-9-5) against No. 3 Yale (19-8-4).

Providence (27-6-4), which defeated Boston University in the title game last season, is the top seed in the Northeast Regional (Worcester, Mass.) and will play Minnesota-Duluth (18-15-5) in the first round Friday. The winner will play No. 2 Boston College (26-7-5) or No. 3 Harvard (19-10-4) on Saturday.

In the West Regional (Saint Paul, Minn.) first round, No. 1 St. Cloud State (31-8-1) will play No. 4 Ferris State (19-14-6) on Saturday. No. 3 Boston University (21-12-5) faces No. 2 Denver (23-9-6).  

In the Midwest Regional (Cincinnati) first round, No. 1 North Dakota (30-6-4) will play No. 4 Northeastern (22-13-5) and No. 2 Michigan (24-7-5) faces No. 3 Notre Dame (19-10-7) on Friday. 

The Frozen Four will take place at Amalie Arena in Tampa, Fla., on April 7, with the East and Northeast Regional winners playing in one semifinal, and the West and Midwest winners playing in the other. The championship game is April 9.
