CRANBROOK, B.C. - Nathan Lieuwen made 29 saves Saturday as the Kootenay Ice downed the Calgary Hitmen 5-1 in Western Hockey League action.
Adam Rossignol had two goals for Kootenay (1-0-1), while Sam Reinhart, Jesse Ismond and Erik Benoit also scored. Brock Montgomery had four assists and Joey Leach added two of his own.
Alex Gogolev had the only goal for Calgary (0-1-0), which got 13 saves from Brandon Glover.
After a scoreless first, the Ice took control of the game with three goals in 1:40 late in the second.
Reinhart scored on the power play at 14:17, before Adam Rossignol doubled the lead 27 seconds later with a quick shot from the slot.
Eric Benoit then won a race for the puck at the Calgary blue-line and went on a breakaway and scored at 15:57.
Gogolev scored his first WHL goal at 10:46 of third to get Calgary on the board.
But Ismond stretched the lead back to three goals at 17:47 before Rossignol added his second of the night at 19:27 on the power play.
