Predators team scope

The Nashville Predators start a five-game road trip with their first visit to Honda Center since they defeated the Anaheim Ducks in Game 7 of their Western Conference First Round series in April. Being back in the building brought back memories of a hard-fought series. "We knew that we were playing one of the best teams in the League," coach Peter Laviolette said. "I was really impressed with the way we defended in that game and protect that game." Nashville enters Wednesday with the NHL's second-best power play (47.4 percent); the Predators have scored at least one power-play goal in each of their first five games for the first time in franchise history. Laviolette said Nashville's success has come by getting pucks to the net and forsaking the extra pass. "I think we're just shooting a lot of pucks," defenseman Roman Josi said. "The guys in front of the net are doing a great job, with a couple goals being tipped. I think the one success factor is just getting pucks to the net and getting bounces."

Ducks team scope

The availability of first-line center Ryan Getzlaf will be a game-time decision. Getzlaf did not come out for the third period of the Ducks' 2-1 overtime loss at the San Jose Sharks in Tuesday after blocking a shot with his arm and wrist during the second period. Getzlaf received treatment in the morning. If Getzlaf is unavailable, Antoine Vermette will move up to center the top line with Nick Ritchie and Corey Perry, and Chris Wagner will move from right wing to center on the third line. "We'll move Wagner back into the middle and Vermette will move up," Carlyle said. "We'll have Vermette, [Ryan] Kesler, Wagner and [Michael] Sgarbossa as our centers." John Gibson will start in goal after playing 41:24 on Tuesday after Jonathan Bernier went down with an upper-body injury. The Ducks recalled Dustin Tokarski from San Diego of the AHL to back up Gibson. Bernier is listed as day to- day. "I got the call around 8 p.m., last night in the second period," Tokarski said. "It's immediate, especially with goalies, because when one goes down you've only got one more. I got the call and drove up last night, we're playing it by ear now."

Status report

The Predators called up defenseman Matt Irwin from Milwaukee of the AHL on Monday. … Center Rickard Rakell has joined the Ducks and was on the ice for the optional morning skate. There's no timetable for his return from offseason abdominal surgery, and he has still not skated with full contact.
