Nail Yakupov, the first player taken in the 2012 NHL Draft, didn't take long to score his first NHL goal.
The Russian teenager didn't score at Vancouver in his NHL debut on Sunday, but he needed just 8:25 of the Edmonton Oilers' home opener to get his first goal.
With the Oilers on a power play, Sam Gagner set up on the goal line to the right of San Jose goaltender Antti Niemi and found Yakupov, who was streaking in from the right side. Gagner's pass was perfect and Yakupov one-timed it into the net, triggering a celebration that included a standing ovation.
The goal cut the Oilers' deficit to 2-1, though San Jose ran off four more goals before end of the period.
