N.S. mayor says lack of funding means NHL Panthers won't be back for training @NHLdotcom

PORT HAWKESBURY, N.S. - A Nova Scotia mayor says the Florida Panthers won't be coming back to his town for training camp this fall.

Time has run out after months of talks with the provincial government about funding to bring the NHL team back to Port Hawkesbury. Mayor Billy Joe MacLean says he never got an answer from the government and realized the province wasn't coming through.

MacLean says he concluded he was just "beating a dead horse."

The town had extended a deadline to secure provincial funding for the training camp until the end of last month - but he says that date came and went without an answer.

MacLean says the town is shifting its focus to hosting a curling event.
