OMAHA, Neb. - North Dakota scored three times in four minutes in the first period, and freshman Zane Gothberg turned in a strong performance in goal in a 5-2 victory over Nebraska-Omaha in an outdoor game at TD Ameritrade Park on Saturday night.
The opening faceoff was delayed 2 1/2 hours because of poor ice conditions, and the start of the second period was delayed because of a broken pipe that left a pool of coolant over the north goal crease.
North Dakota's early flurry started with Jordan Schmaltz's power-play goal from inside the blue line. Nick Mattson scored next, sweeping in a rebound after Faulkner turned aside Rocco Grimaldi's breakaway try. Mitch MacMillan banged in the third to end UNO goalie John Faulkner's night less than 11 minutes into the game.
Corban Knight scored in the last minute of the second period against Dayn Belfour to put North Dakota ahead 4-0.
