Mueller scores late in third period as Marlies defeat IceHogs 4-1 @NHLdotcom

ROCKFORD, Ill. - Marcel Mueller scored the winner late in the third period as the Toronto Marlies beat the Rockford IceHogs 4-1 in American Hockey League action Wednesday.

All the scoring came in the third period. Toronto's Jerry D'Amigo opened the scoring 1:52 into the third, then Ben Smith tied the game with a power-play goal just past the halfway mark.

After Mueller gave the Marlies a 2-1 lead at 17:35, Mike Zigomanis and Ryan Hamilton added short-handed empty-net goals to put the game away.

Ben Scrivens made 30 saves for Toronto (16-10-4), which maintained its three-point North Division lead over the Rochester Americans.

Carter Hutton stopped 24 shots for Rockford (11-15-3), which is last in the Midwest Division.
