Mrazek to start for Red Wings against Hurricanes

HURRICANES (2-6-0) at RED WINGS (4-3-1)

DETROIT -- The Detroit Red Wings will start Petr Mrazek in goal when they play the Carolina Hurricanes at Joe Louis Arena on Tuesday.

Mrazek is 3-0-0 against Carolina with a 1.33 goals-against average and .966 save percentage. He made an NHL career-high 44 saves in a 4-3 win against the Hurricanes on Oct. 10 in Raleigh, N.C.

"I wouldn't say it's a huge part of it, but it's part of it," Detroit coach Jeff Blashill said. "We have lots of things that kind of factor into those decisions; certainly the success he had in Carolina and the success he's had in his career is part of it, but there's other things as well."

It will be Mrazek's fourth start in the past five games.

The Hurricanes have outshot the Red Wings 83-46 in two games this season. Carolina won 5-3 on Oct. 16 at Joe Louis Arena with Jimmy Howard in goal for Detroit.

"We did a lot of good things against them," Hurricanes right wing Chris Terry said. "Those guys backcheck hard, but we need to keep utilizing our speed. … We were holding onto the puck and making smart plays with it.

"In the defensive zone we were efficient. It was one (shot) and done and we were out of the zone."

Blashill said, "We got outcompeted for two games against Carolina, so we better come out and be ready to compete."

He was then more specific.

"They come at you hard, they forecheck hard. We've got to do a better job of getting the puck out of our zone," Blashill said. "So, from breakouts, whether it's by creating some more room for our puck-retrievers or whether it's great support from other players and making sure we don't turn the puck over, that's a huge key."
