Rafael Harvey-Pinard signed a two-year $2.2 million contract to stay with the Montreal Canadiens on Monday. It has an average annual value of $1.1 million.

The 24-year-old forward was a restricted free agent. He had 20 points (14 goals, six assists) in 34 games last season.

Selected by Montreal in the seventh round (No. 201) of the 2019 NHL Draft, Harvey-Pinard has 21 points (15 goals, six assists) in 38 regular-season games.

The Canadiens acquired forward Alex Newhook in a trade with the Colorado Avalanche on June 27 for a first- and second-round pick in the 2023 Upper Deck NHL Draft and defenseman prospect Gianni Fairbrother. Newhook had 30 points (14 goals, 16 assists) in 82 games last season and one assist in seven Stanley Cup Playoff games.

The 22-year-old forward became a restricted free agent July 1.

Montreal (31-45-6) finished 15th in the Eastern Conference last season.
