MTL@CHI: Tatar redirects shot to give Canadiens lead

CHICAGO -- Tomas Tatar scored the go-ahead goal for the Montreal Canadiens with 1:17 left in a 3-2 win against the Chicago Blackhawks at United Center on Sunday.

Carey Price made 37 saves for the Canadiens (15-10-5), who have won three games in a row and are 4-1-0 in their past five after a five-game losing streak. Montreal went 7-for-8 on the penalty kill, including 5-for-5 in the third period.
"I think the key to our two points tonight was Carey Price," forward Andrew Shaw said. "He was absolutely outstanding. The penalty kill was great. We shot ourselves in the foot eight times, eight power plays. … There was a double minor in there, I think they had a six-minute power play straight, so hats off to our D, our (penalty) killers, and obviously our goalie."

Tatar deflected Jeff Petry's shot from the left point to give Montreal a 3-2 lead at 18:43 of the third period.
Patrick Kane scored two goals for the Blackhawks (9-17-5), who have lost seven in a row.
"It's always nice to produce," said Kane, who ended a six-game goal drought and has nine points (three goals, six assists) in the past eight games. "It's been awhile for me here lately. I could kind of feel it coming the last couple games. It's nice to get on the score sheet, would've been nice to get another one there in the third or get something, especially on the power play. But it didn't happen."

MTL@CHI: Domi buries rebound to kick off scoring

Max Domi gave the Canadiens a 1-0 lead at 6:05 of the first period.
Shea Weber made it 2-0 with a slap shot from above the right face-off circle off a pass from Kenny Agostino from below the goal line at 7:36 of the first.
It was the 10th straight game Chicago allowed the first goal and ninth in the past 10 they allowed at least two goals in the first period.
"It's just, like, we talk about it, and it's very, very frustrating, especially when it keeps happening," Kane said. "I'm sure we'll keep addressing it, keep trying to figure it out, keep trying to go [new] ways about it, maybe switch things up, I don't know. It's frustrating that it keeps happening."
Kane scored on the power play to make it 2-1 with 59 seconds remaining in the first.
He tied the game 2-2 at 12:55 of the second period on a one-timer from the right circle off a Dominik Kahun cross-ice pass.
"I picked up the pass a little late and I didn't get the push that I wanted, so I reached for it," Price said. "I don't know if it was the ice conditions or what, but I don't think he got all of it, just found a way to float it over my head."
Chicago defenseman Connor Murphy had four shots on goal and three hits in 16:46 in his season debut. He missed the first 31 games with a back injury.
"Physically, I felt good," Murphy said. "It was nice to get into a normal rhythm at the start of the game. Yeah, just getting into the flow of it was good. It was nice to have a home game. I felt like the guys were skating pretty well tonight and didn't have too much time defending, which is always nice to play a little more offense. So that part of it was good."

MTL@CHI: Weber blasts one-timer past Crawford

They said it

"I don't think you want to take eight penalties every night, it's going to bite you, but [the penalty kill was] really good tonight. Obviously, the guy in the net was a huge part of that. He was great for us and gave us a chance to win." -- Canadiens captain Shea Weber on goalie Carey Price

MTL@CHI: Price makes save after losing his stick

"It's disappointing. You'd love to see a puck to go in. I think we did enough, probably. We would've liked to have gotten a few pucks through, and there were some rebounds lying around, we just couldn't finish. Unfortunate to give up the goal at the end. That really, really gives it a negative tinge." -- Blackhawks coach Jeremy Colliton on going 0-for-5 on the power play in the third period

Need to know

Blackhawks forward Artem Anisimov left the game under NHL concussion protocol at 1:03 of the third period after a hit from Weber, Colliton said. … Domi (three goals, two assists) and Tatar (two goals, three assists) each has five points in the past five games.
