Chiarot's 2 goals gives Canadiens 6th win in last 7

CALGARY -- Ben Chiarot scored his second goal in overtime when the Montreal Canadiens ended the Calgary Flames' 11-game home winning streak 5-4 at Scotiabank Saddledome on Thursday.

Nick Suzuki had a goal and two assists, and Mike Hoffman had a goal and three assists for the Canadiens (14-34-7), who have won six of seven. Andrew Hammond made 30 saves.
"That's a big one, beating a team like that," Chiarot said. "They're at the top of the standings and you can see why. They don't give you any room out there. That's a big one for the confidence of the team, knowing we can play with anybody. That's a big one for the character of the team, I think."
Elias Lindholm and Andrew Mangiapane scored, and Jacob Markstrom made 30 saves for the Flames (32-14-7), who would have set their record with a 12th straight home win.
"I think lately at home we haven't been, even though we're winning games, we haven't worn teams down and stuff like that like we did a couple weeks ago," Lindholm said. "We need to get back to that. That's how we want to play. Wear teams down and play in the O-zone as much as possible. Right now, we're turning pucks over and playing too much up and down."
Chiarot one-timed a cross-ice pass from Rem Pitlick by Markstrom at 1:03 of overtime for the win.
"He had a great game," Suzuki said. "He's our horse back there and he's had a great season so far. For him to get the OT winner, I thought it was well deserving."

Lindholm tied the game 4-4 with 28 seconds remaining in the third period with Markstrom on the bench for the extra attacker.
"It's a good play by everybody on the ice all working together," Mangiapane said. "We were getting up top and getting it to the net. We had a couple times down low to finish it off. [Rasmus Andersson] just shot it at that one, and I knew 'Lindy' was backdoor over there so I just threw it over there. He was in a nice soft spot and put it in for us."
His goal came after Hoffman made it 4-3 at 17:15 when he shot under Markstrom's right arm from the right face-off circle.
"We knew it was going to be a big challenge," Hammond said. "You understand what their record is in this building lately, and just overall too. Anytime you see the highlights they look as advertised. I just thought that we kind of stuck with it, didn't worry about the score, and just kept playing our game. Just kept chipping away and got the result we were hoping for."

Blake Coleman put Calgary up 1-0 at 11:06 of the first period when he tapped in a backdoor pass from Mangipane. Petry tied it 1-1 at 19:34.
Johnny Gaudreau made it 2-1 at 12:08 of the second period when he picked up a turnover in the corner before lifting a shot over Hammond's shoulder.
Mangiapane extended the lead to 3-1 at 15:40 with a shorthanded goal. He has scored in four straight games and is tied with Connor McDavid of the Edmonton Oilers and Gabriel Landeskog of the Colorado Avalanche for eighth in the NHL with 29 goals.
Mangiapane has scored eight points (four goals, four assists) in a five-game point streak.
"I want to be one of those guys to help the team in any way possible," Mangiapane said. "Just going out there every game, playing with good players and just trying to work hard and play my game and right now goals are going in for me."
