Ducks make it nine straight

ANAHEIM --Jakob Silfverberg scored the shootout winner and John Gibson made 25 saves to help the Anaheim Ducks win their ninth straight game in a 3-2 victory against the Montreal Canadiens at Honda Center on Wednesday.
Anaheim (34-19-8) has earned a point in 11 straight games (10-0-1) and 19 of the past 21.
Ducks coach Bruce Boudreau felt the Ducks' resolve was ultimately the key.

"I didn't think we played very good and you've got to give that other team credit because they played really good," Boudreau said. "And they kept coming and kept coming and it was just the fact that we're getting a good will to win right now. That kept us going."

Jamie McGinn made his Ducks debut with a goal, tying the game at 1-1 in the second period. McGinn was acquired from the Buffalo Sabres for a conditional draft pick on Monday.
Corey Perry scored his fourth goal in two games when he tied the game 2-2 in the third.
Alex Galchenyuk scored twice for Montreal (30-28-6), opening the scoring in the second period and again less than a minute into the third. He's scored five goals over the past three games and has 19 for the season, one shy of matching his career high set in 2014-15.
Canadiens goalie Mike Condon made 32 saves.

"Our team battled hard," Canadiens coach Michel Therrien said. "We played against a good hockey team and we know we have to show a lot of character. I really appreciate the effort tonight."
Andrei Markov fed Alex Galchenyuk from the blue line and Galchenyuk one-timed it past Gibson from the right circle 4:25 into the second period to give Montreal a 1-0 lead.
The Ducks outshot the Canadiens 18-5 in the second with the help of a four-minute power play. Markov and Ducks forward Nate Thompson each drew roughing penalties at 7:47, but Max Pacioretty was whistled for roughing nine seconds later and Therrien was awarded a bench minor when he tried to protest. But Anaheim failed to capitalize and Montreal briefly took back the momentum behind a strong performance by Condon.
Later in the period, McGinn tied it when he scored off his own rebound at 14:28.

It wasn't until Tuesday night when McGinn arrived in Orange County. He first arrived at Honda Center on Wednesday and met his teammates, but that first goal in a Ducks uniform made the trade more official.
"It's definitely good to get it out of the way quick," McGinn said. "You don't want it to take too long. You want to feel a part of the new team and contribute any way you can. I was just trying to keep it simple tonight. Keep my legs moving and be physical and be a presence in front of the net."
That net presence is exactly what Boudreau was looking for in his new second-line left wing.
"When he goes to the net, he's a big man and he's hard to move out of the way," Boudreau said. "He's got big hands and he kept his eye on the puck after the rebound and that's what you need from him."

Galchenyuk put the Canadiens ahead 56 seconds into the third period. But with over nine minutes left, Perry tied the game to extend Anaheim's streak to nine straight games with a power-play goal.
"They made us pay for it on their power play," Canadiens forward Max Pacioretty said. "We knew they had a good power play and they were hot lately. If we had bared down, maybe we'd end up with two points. But I'll take the energy and the game that we played. We really liked the way we played."
