Montgomery scores winner in third to lift Kootenay Ice over Calgary Hitmen 2-1 @NHLdotcom

CRANBROOK, B.C. - Brock Montgomery scored the go-ahead goal in the third period to lift the Kootenay Ice to a 2-1 win over the Calgary Hitmen in Western Hockey League action on Saturday night.

After a scoreless first period the Hitmen (39-24-3) opened the scoring on a delayed penalty. Cody Sylvester skated down the left wing and scored with a long wrist shot through the goalie's legs.

The Ice (35-23-8) tied the game when Sam Reinhart put in a rebound off Jesse Ismond's shot.

Early in the third period the Ice made it 2-1 on a 2-on-1 break with Max Reinhart feeding Montgomery who reached 20 goals.

Ice GM Jeff Chynoweth was not at the game after having his appendix removed on Friday night.
