PITTSBURGH - A moment of silence will be observed before Game 4 of the Stanley Cup final Saturday night after the death of Vancouver Canucks defenceman Luc Bourdon.

Bourdon died Thursday in a motorcycle accident near his hometown of Shippagan, N.B. He was 21.

"The National Hockey League family grieves with the family, friends and teammates of Luc Bourdon," NHL commissioner Gary Bettman said in a statement Friday.

"We send heartfelt condolences to the Vancouver Canucks' organization and the community of Shippagan, N.B. To honour a young life ended long before its promise could be fulfilled, a moment of silence will be observed Saturday night prior to Game 4 of the Stanley Cup final."

The Detroit Red Wings have a 2-1 lead on the Pittsburgh Penguins.
