DALLAS (AP) - Dallas center Mike Modano appeared to match Phil Housley for the most points by an American-born NHL player, but had the tying point for an assist taken away after the Stars' 5-4 loss to Chicago on Wednesday night.

Modano, already the U.S. goal leader with 509, was originally credited with the second assist on Zubov's goal at 10:07 of the third on a 5-on-3 advantage, but the assist was taken away after officials determined Modano didn't touch the puck.

The 37-year-old Michigan native has two goals and three assists in the first 12 games this season, leaving him a point short of Housley's U.S. record of 1,232nd points.

Housley, from Minnesota, had 338 goals and 894 assists in 1,495 games from 1982-2003 for Buffalo, Winnipeg, St. Louis, Calgary, New Jersey, Washington, Chicago and Toronto.
