Former Avalanche ice girl makes history at 2018 PyeongChang Olympics

Mirai Nagasu is a world-class ice skater, but fans of the Colorado Avalanche already knew that.
Nagasu, former Avalanche ice girl, made history on Sunday, becoming the first American woman to land a triple axel in Olympic competition while helping the United States win a bronze medal in the team figure-skating event in PyeongChang.

"I tripped a couple of times going into it because I was so nervous," Nagasu told NBC after the event. "But to tell myself 'No, I'm going to go for it 100 percent and not pull back,' that was really special for me."
In addition to becoming the first American skater to hit the difficult jump in the Winter Games, Nagasu was just the third skater ever to land it at the Olympics. Midori Ito and Mao Asada, both of Japan, landed the triple axel in 2010 and 2014, respectively. Tonya Harding and Kimmie Meissner are the only other American women to complete the feat in any international competition.
Led by Nagasu's score of 137.53, a personal best, the United States finished third behind Canada and the Olympic Athletes from Russia.
Nagasu was part of the Avalanche ice team for the 2015-16 NHL season, where she maintained the playing surface and was an ambassador at community and charity events in the Greater Denver region.
