Taylor Hall scores to give Devils OT victory

NEWARK, N.J. -- Taylor Hall scored 29 seconds into overtime to give the New Jersey Devils a 2-1 win against the Minnesota Wild at Prudential Center on Saturday.
Hall took a pass from Adam Henrique after crossing the blue line and his snap shot beat Devan Dubnyk between the pads. It was Hall's third goal of the season.
"In 3-on-3 overtime, you're usually playing against two forwards and one defenseman," Hall said. "I got caught on a rush where I was playing defense and that's an unfamiliar spot for a guy like me and that's what happened to them. [Henrique] made a great saucer pass over to me and I saw an opening five-hole."

PA Parenteau scored his second of the season off a slap shot from the top of right circle to give the Devils a 1-1 tie with 8:04 left in the third period. It was the first 5-on-5 goal for the Devils in three games.
"PA is a goal scorer and that was a heck of a shot," Devils coach John Hynes said.
The Wild (3-1-1) had their three-game winning streak end. The Devils (2-2-1) won their second in three games. Dubnyk made 30 saves in his second straight start. Cory Schneider made 28 saves for the Devils in his fifth straight start.
"It's disappointing," Dubnyk said. "Usually we're able to squeeze those games out. We had some chances and [Schneider] played really well."

Schneider has a 1.80 goals-against average and .943 save percentage in five games.
"It was important for us to come home and get two points," he said. "We didn't get down on ourselves when we got behind. But we can't get on that cycle of win one, lose one. We need to get on a roll."
Wild rookie forward Joel Eriksson Ek scored in his first NHL game off a rebound for a 1-0 lead 1:00 into the second period.
Eriksson Ek scored when he controlled a rebound and lifted a shot past Schneider.
"Of course it's a dream come true for every hockey player to one day play in the NHL," Eriksson Ek said. "On my goal, it felt like the puck was going in slow motion or something."

Goal of the game

Hall scored the 24th game-winner and sixth overtime winner of his NHL career. After crossing the blue line with Henrique, Hall broke to the net from the left circle and collected a pass before directing a shot between the pads of Dubnyk.

Save of the game

Wild left wing Mikael Granlund just missed scoring his first of the season 6:45 into the second when he skated over the Devils blue line down right wing, cut to the slot and snapped a shot that Schneider saved with his catching glove to keep New Jersey within 1-0.

Highlight of the game

Wild defenseman Matt Dumba delivered one of his game-high five hits against Hall with 5:53 remaining in the second after the latter crossed center ice and skated down the left wing.

Unsung moment of the game

Eriksson Ek scored off a rebound from the slot after Schneider mishandled a shot taken by Jason Zucker. The 19-year-old was recalled from Iowa of the American Hockey League on Friday to replace injured forward Erik Haula.

The Devils honored former goalie Martin Brodeur by unveiling a bronze statue of him outside of Prudential Center prior to the start of the game
. Brodeur is assistant general manager of the St. Louis Blues. ... Eriksson Ek, 19, became the seventh player in Wild history to score in his NHL debut. The No. 20 pick in the 2015 NHL Draft waited a week to get his visa issues resolved before scoring in his North American debut for Iowa against Grand Rapids on Oct. 18.
