Vilardi's goal, Quick's shutout lead Kings to 1-0 win

LOS ANGELES -- Jonathan Quick made 21 saves for the Los Angeles Kings in a 1-0 win against the Minnesota Wild at Crypto.com Arena on Tuesday.

"We did all the little things right," Quick said. "I think we only took one penalty tonight, especially when you're playing against a team that is as good on the power play as they are, so trying to limit the chances there. And then blocked shots, clean rebounds, and limiting their chances, I think that goes a long way."
Gabriel Vilardi scored on a one-timer from the high slot at 13:57 of the third period for the Kings (8-6-1).
It was the 10th goal of the season in 15 games for Vilardi, who tied his NHL career high. He scored 10 goals in 54 games in 2020-21. Vilardi has played on the first line with Anze Kopitar and Adrian Kempe for the past seven games.
"He's scoring. He's responsible defensively. He's a big body that keeps plays alive. So to this point, he's fit in really well," Los Angeles coach Todd McLellan said of Vilardi.

Kopitar and Drew Doughty each had an assist.
Marc-Andre Fleury made 29 saves for the Wild (5-6-1), who play at the Anaheim Ducks on Wednesday.
"In my mind, I want to stop them all, right?" Fleury said. "It doesn't matter what the score is. Obviously, I wish I could have stopped that one and maybe dragged this one into overtime."
Los Angeles defeated Minnesota 7-6 on Oct. 15.
"The last game we played against them was pretty crazy, back and forth," Kings defenseman Matt Roy said. "It's kind of been like that throughout the years, so it's good to put up a goose egg and play good in front of 'Quickie.'"

MIN@LAK: Quick makes 21 saves in 57th career shutout

Wild forward Kirill Kaprizov received a game misconduct for a cross-check against Doughty at 14:48 of the second period, but the Kings did not score on a five-minute power play.
The Wild had one power play after forward Brendan Lemieux was called for unsportsmanlike conduct against forward Mason Shaw with four seconds left in the second period.
Los Angeles was 0-for-4 on the power play.
"It was one of those nights where, if the power play had been sharp, you could have been up 3-0," McLellan said. "It could have been 1-0 two minutes into the third period. They were on the power play, fresh ice, and a chance to regroup.
"But the adjustment between second and third, mentally, was really important for our team. Obviously, it didn't go well on the power play. We were all a little bit frustrated. Break came, we reloaded."
