MIN@LAK: Kaprizov wins it in OT with first goal

LOS ANGELES --Kirill Kaprizov scored at 3:47 of overtime to give the Minnesota Wild a 4-3 win against the Los Angeles Kings in the season opener for each team at Staples Center on Thursday.

Kaprizov, who also had two assists in his NHL debut, picked off Dustin Brown's pass in the neutral zone and beat Jonathan Quick five-hole on a breakaway.
"I think more than anything you just see his competitiveness all over the ice, and that's what makes him so good," Wild defenseman Matt Dumba said. "And then he gets a puck on a break and you see what he does. Everyone who's watching the game can see that he's a special talent."
Victor Rask and Marcus Foligno scored in the third period, and Cam Talbot made 31 saves in his debut with Minnesota.

Dustin Brown scored his 300th NHL goal, Jeff Carter had a goal and an assist, and Anze Kopitar had two assists for the Kings. Quick made 23 saves.
Rask got the Wild within 3-2 at 3:15 of the third period with a shot through traffic, and Foligno tied it 3-3 at 9:42 after beating Kings defenseman Olli Maatta to a loose puck in front.
"It was certainly not the outcome we wanted, especially being up 3-1," Kopitar said. "The third was not as sharp as we wanted. We made some good plays and good stuff was happening throughout the game, but we have to clean up what happened in the third."
Jonas Brodin gave Minnesota a 1-0 lead at 16:06 of the first period with a wrist shot off a pass from Kaprizov, who got his first NHL point on the play.
"I'm sure we're all talking about the offensive side of the puck. Defensive side of the puck was awesome as well," Wild coach Dean Evason said about Kaprizov. "And when you have no fear as a staff to put somebody on the ice that's special like that, it makes it a very easy decision."

Carter tied it 1-1 with three seconds remaining in the first when he crashed the net and backhanded in the rebound of a shot by Kopitar off a face-off.
Andreas Athanasiou, who was making his Kings debut, got the rebound of Carter's initial shot off the pad of Talbot during a 4-on-4 to give Los Angeles a 2-1 lead at 7:12 of the second period.
"[Carter is] a utility guy for us. Put him in any situation he will deliver," Kopitar said.
Brown extended the lead to 3-1 at 17:05 when his pass from behind the net redirected in off Carson Soucy's skate on the power play. Brown is the sixth Kings player to score at least 300 goals, joining Luc Robitaille (557), Marcel Dionne (550), Dave Taylor (431), Kopitar (333) and Bernie Nicholls (327).
