MIN@EDM: McDavid creates space, snipes shot by Dubnyk

EDMONTON-- Connor McDavid had his second four-point game of the season, and the Edmonton Oilers defeated the Minnesota Wild 7-2 at Rogers Place on Friday.

McDavid had a goal and three assists, and Leon Draisaitl had two goals and an assist for Edmonton (15-12-2), which is 6-2-1 under coach Ken Hitchcock.
"Offense is something that comes in waves, and for whatever reason, we haven't been able to find it, but we've been solid defensively," McDavid said. "It doesn't really matter how good your offense is, if you're only giving up two a night you're going to be in the game. It was nice to get a few tonight. You have these nights where things go in for you, and you have others where it doesn't flow for you."

Marcus Foligno and Nino Niederreiter scored for Minnesota (15-12-2), which lost 2-0 to the Calgary Flames on Thursday and is 1-5-0 in its past six games.
Devan Dubnyk allowed three goals on six shots before being pulled at 8:42 of the first period. Alex Stalock made 22 saves.
"I'll take responsibility for this one," Dubnyk said. "They obviously have some guys that can fly, and you have to be able to control them and settle it down if things are going that way. That's my job."
Draisaitl scored at 4:14 of the first period to give the Oilers a 1-0 lead off a cross-ice pass from McDavid. Nugent-Hopkins made it 2-0 at 7:44, getting to a loose puck in front of the net after it was misplayed by Dubnyk. McDavid scored at 8:42 to give the Oilers a 3-0 lead.

MIN@EDM: Draisaitl pots McDavid's feed for early goal

"It's always nice to score goals, but I thought our defensive game was pretty solid," Draisaitl said. "It's a good team over there and they're going to get their chances. I thought [goalie Cam Talbot] was very good tonight (31 saves) and we had different lines contributing, and eventually, that's what you need to win in this league."
Foligno scored at 10:38 of the first to make it 3-1. Minnesota outshot Edmonton 14-9 in the second period and had two scoreless power plays.
"I thought the penalty killers did a really good job of shutting it down," McDavid said. "They had a couple of chances, and [Talbot] was big for us in the second and we had a pretty good third. It was a huge goal by [Zack Kassian] to get it going."

MIN@EDM: Kassian tacks on an insurance goal in 3rd

Kassian made it 4-1 at 1:51 of the third period on a wrist shot from just inside the blue line that ended his 18-game point drought. Niederreiter scored at 7:32 on a deflection in front to make it 4-2, and Draisaitl made it 5-2 at 10:34 off a pass from McDavid in the slot.
"I'm concerned about every aspect of our game," Wild coach Bruce Boudreau said. "After 18 games we were third in the League defensively and now I am afraid to look where we are (15th in goals allowed per game). It is just unraveled right now. It is on us as a coaching staff and a team to right this ship and get them back learning how to play great defense again, because that is what is going to win you games, not trying to score five goals a night."

MIN@EDM: Draisaitl nets one-timer for his second goal

Chiasson made it 6-2 at 13:48, and Nurse scored at 17:09 to make it 7-2.
"I thought we played so well for each other in the third period," Hitchcock said. "I told the players that at the end of the game. The things we did, the way we covered our own net, the way we got out on transition, I thought we did a heck of a job and we were rewarded with the goals."

They said it

"The start just killed us. On a back to back it is kind of hard to get your legs going. We had some missed assignments, and obviously their star players are star players." -- Wild forward Marcus Foligno

MIN@EDM: Foligno puts the Wild on the board

"It's good to know that we can check for our wins, but it's also good to know we have that firepower that we can get some depth scoring." -- Oilers goalie Cam Talbot
