Minnesota shorthanded up front; Smith in goal for Calgary

The Game

The Minnesota Wild will use 11 forwards and seven defenseman against the Calgary Flames at Scotiabank Saddledome on Saturday after another forward was injured.

Already without forwards Zach Parise (undisclosed), Nino Niederreiter (ankle sprain), Charlie Coyle (fibula fracture) and Mikael Granlund (groin), Minnesota will be without Landon Ferraro who sustained a hip flexor injury in the first period of a 4-3 loss at the Winnipeg Jets on Friday.

Wild goaltender Alex Stalock will make his second start of the season after Devan Dubnyk made 26 saves against Winnipeg. 

Mike Smith will make his eighth straight start for Calgary. Smith has a 2.51 goals against average and .930 save percentage, and is second in the NHL in saves (227) and shots against (244). He has played 407 of 420 minutes for Calgary. 

 

Players to watch

Minnesota forward Chris Stewart has seven points (five goals, two assists) during a five-game point streak.

Calgary center Sean Monahan has seven points (four goals, three assists) in his past six games.
