Alexander Khovanov, a forward prospect for the Minnesota Wild, had surgery to remove a benign bone tumor (osteoid osteoma) in his left leg on Friday and is expected to need 4-6 weeks to recover.
Khovanov, selected by the Wild in the third round (No. 86) of the 2018 NHL Draft, had been expected to play for Minnesota at the 2019 NHL Prospect Tournament in Traverse City, Michigan, which will be held Sept. 6-10. The 19-year-old forward had 74 points (25 goals, 49 assists) in 64 games with Moncton of the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League last season.
