The Washington Capitals acquired defenseman Mike Weber from the Buffalo Sabres for a third-round pick in the 2017 NHL Draft on Tuesday.
Weber (6-foot-2, 217 pounds) had five points (one goal, four assists) and 32 penalty minutes in 35 games with the Sabres this season. Since entering the NHL in 2007-08, Weber has blocked 666 shots and has 917 hits. He has one assist in seven Stanley Cup Playoff games.

"We are pleased to welcome Mike to our organization," Capitals general manager Brian MacLellan said. "Mike is a stay-at-home defenseman who plays a physical game and is respected by his teammates. We felt it was important to add depth to our blue line by adding another quality veteran defenseman."
Weber, 28, had 53 points (nine goals, 44 assists) and 409 penalty minutes in 341 games with Buffalo. He was selected by the Sabres in the second round (No. 57) of the 2006 draft.
