PETERBOROUGH, Ont. - Mike Morrison made 38 saves Thursday in leading the Peterborough Petes to a 4-3 win over the Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds in Ontario Hockey League action.
Matt Puempel scored twice for Peterborough (8-5-3), while Alan Quine and Nick Ritchie had the other goals.
David Elsner had two goals and one assist for Sault Ste. Marie (10-7-0), while Cory Durocher added a goal and two assists.
Matt Murray made 29 saves in defeat.
Puempel, an Ottawa Senators first-round pick in June, scored a pair of goals 1:25 apart to help the Petes take a 3-1 first-period lead after Quine had opened the scoring on the power play.
Quine circled in the corner, carried the puck to the front and slid a backhand just inside the far post. Ritchie scored just under two minutes into the second to put the Petes ahead by three.
The Greyhounds turned the momentum with a pair less than two minutes apart in the second, but couldn't get the equalizer. The game was scoreless for its final 24 minutes.
Peterborough finished 1-for-3 on the power play, while Sault Ste. Marie wound up 0-for-5.
