Meurs scores in only goal in shootout as Whalers beat Greyhounds 4-3

SAULT STE MARIE, Ont. - Garrett Meurs scored the lone shootout goal to give the Plymouth Whalers a 4-3 win over the Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds in Ontario Hockey League action Sunday.

Meurs scored after 11 other shooters were turned aside by Plymouth goaltender Matt Mahalak and Greyhounds netminder Jack Campbell.

JT Miller scored a pair of goals for the Whalers in the victory while Stefan Noesen added two assists. Mitchell Heard had the other goal for the Whalers.

Mahalak stopped 37 shots for the Whalers, who improved to 34-12-3 with the win.

Nick Cousins assisted on all three goals for the Greyhounds in the loss. Ryan Sproul had a goal and an assist while Brandon Alderson and Michael Schumacher also scored.

Campbell stopped 36 shots for the Greyhounds (20-24-5).

Both teams went one-for-six on the power play.
