LETHBRIDGE, Alta. - Juha Metsola made 29 saves as the Lethbridge Hurricanes shut out the Kootenay Ice 3-0 Friday night, clinching their WHL Eastern Conference semifinal series 4-1.
Jeff May scored in the opening period, Carter Bancks added a second period short-handed goal and Dwight King scored into an empty as the Hurricanes advanced to the East final for the first time since 1996-97.
Kris Lazaruk made 17 saves in taking the loss for Kootenay. The Ice won Game 1 of the series, but lost four straight.
Lethbridge was 2-for-6 on the power play and held Kootenay scoreless on six opportunities, while also scoring shorthanded.
