Medicine Hat's star Hunter Shinkaruk named CHL player of the week @NHLdotcom

TORONTO - Hunter Shinkaruk of the Medicine Hat Tigers was named the Canadian Hockey League's player of the week Wednesday.

Shinkaruk won the weekly award after scoring 11 points (seven goals, four assists) in three games.

The 17-year-old from Calgary opened the week with back-to-back hat tricks, and is currently seventh in Western Hockey League scoring with 28 points (20 goals, eight assists) in 20 games.

Matt Puempel of the Peterborough Petes and Anton Zlobin of the Shawinigan Cataractes were also considered for the award.
