Connor McDavid not only filled up the score sheet on Thursday, he also lit up social media.

The Edmonton Oilers center scored an NHL career-high six points (three goals, three assists) in a 6-2 victory against the Colorado Avalanche at Rogers Place.

McDavid became the first Oilers player to have six points in a game since Sam Gagner had eight (four goals, four assists) on Feb. 2, 2012.

Not surprisingly, his performance in the Oilers win generated plenty of excitement on Twitter.

Tweet from @NHL: It just isn't possible for Connor McDavid (@cmcdavid97) to not be entertaining.

Tweet from @rayferrarotsn: Do McDavid and Draisaitl know this is the NHL? @EdmontonOilers fans are getting a treat

One fan wondered what Gagner might have been thinking during the game.

Tweet from @corn_cwm: Gagner watching as McDavid closes in on his single game point record

Another fan was already thinking about what he would tell his kids about McDavid when he has kids.

Tweet from @Moe_Jaber: My dad told me so many stories about how good Wayne Gretzky was when he was watching the Oilers. If I'm blessed with kids one day, I hope to tell them how special it was watching Connor McDavid. My goodness what a talent. #Oilers #LetsGoOilers

However, there was also some love for McDavid's linemate Leon Draisaitl, who had five assists.

Tweet from @NHL: And just so you know... Leon Draisaitl has five points.

And there was even some snark over McDavid not getting a point in the third period.

Tweet from @Rob_Tychkowski: Theyve played 6:45 of the third and McDavid remains stalled at six points. #SlumpWatch
