SWIFT CURRENT, Sask. - Tyler Maxwell and Mark Pysyk both scored twice to power the Edmonton Oil Kings to a 6-1 win over the Swift Current Broncos on Friday in the Western Hockey League.
Maxwell, one of three overage players on Edmonton's roster, scored his 26th and 27th goals of the season, including the game opener on the power play.
Edmonton (31-11-5) also had goals from first-year players Mitchell Moroz and Curtis Lazar and stays atop the Eastern Conference standings.
Oil Kings captain Pysyk scored his first two-goal game of the season and now has five goals on the year.
Rookie Coda Gordon had the lone Swift Current goal with his rookie team leading 19th of the year. The Broncos (18-23-5) remains in 10th spot in the Eastern Conference.
Edmonton rookie netminder Tristan Jarry stopped 20 of 21 shots.
Broncos starting goaltender Jon Groenheyde gave up four goals on 15 shots before being lifted 8:02 into the second period. Austin Smith finished the final 31:58 of play, giving up two goals on 14 shots.
Swift Current rookie forward Colby Cave was assessed a five minute major penalty for boarding after hitting Edmonton's Mason Geertsen into the boards right in front of the Oil Kings bench with 1:56 left in regulation. The game was delayed 10 minutes as medical personnel cautiously removed Geertsen from the ice on a stretcher.
Edmonton has now won all three season meetings between the teams by a combined scored of 15-5.
