CRANBROOK, B.C. - Matt Strueby scored the shootout winner as the Regina Pats beat the Kootenay Ice 3-2 in Western Hockey League action Friday.
The Ice opened the scoring on a 3-on-2 break as forward Dustin Sylvester fed a pass to Joey Leach who scored on a wrist shot. Kootenay (11-12-2) broke a 0-for-25 streak on the power play to make it 2-0. Dominik Pacovsky brought the puck deep into the zone and left the puck near the net where Kevin King chipped it in.
In the second period, Eberle was left alone in the slot during a power play and scored on a one-timer to make it 2-1.
Kyle Mulder scored for the Pats (12-11-3) in the third to send the game to overtime and the shootout.
Damien Ketlo made 27 saves for the win, while at the other end Ice goaltender Todd Mathews stopped 31 shots.
